The organ was removed in July 2005 for rebuilding by Foster-Waite. Here are

Tidy pipes

The
North Aisle Aug 2005
As
viewed from the choir vestry Aug 2005 (The bellows which store the
wind are left in place underneath the organ).
Though the case
is empty the front display pipes remain
in place.
Summer 2005, a
Makin 3-manual electronic is in temporary use, soon moved to North side.
January 2006
In January 2006 we removed the display pipes for rubbing down and spray
painting.

The blower
has been rewired and refitted.
The
cupboard was bare !
The stop
knobs have gone but the pneumatics are still there.
Work had to cease and the organ was encased in polythene whilst
redecoration of the Chancel took place.
March 2006
The main display
pipes on the front of the case were replaced - before
painting & after
painting
The new Pedal
Principal is in place and its display
pipes were also painted and replaced
A view through the back of the empty
swell box, with the main display pipes visible in the background.
A view of the west end
of the organ looking through into the chancel (Makin substitute
visible).
The new Pedal
Flute was installed.

Foster-Waite Organ
Builders have kindly provided some photos, including work in progress
at
their workshop
1) Pedal Flute
2) Stop mechanism on Right-hand side being prepared for pedal stops - Side and Back.
3) Some of the new electrics - View 1 and View 2.
4) The soundboards on which the pipes stand are really only boxes ! - View 1 and View 2.
5) Soundboard marked
out for the new Clarinet and 2ft on the Great.
6) The new Clarinet pipes.
7) This is a picture taken inside the Great organ
before any work
started. Notice the dirt and compare the dullness of the big display
pipes with the "after painting" view above.
June 2006
The keyboards and
pedalboard have been replaced and stopknobs, both old and new, are in
place. The pedal stopknobs are now located on the Right hand jamb.
Pipes are being returned to the swellbox,
the oboe is now at the back - the new very long thin lower pipes are
just visible either side of the rather mangy looking large pipes..
Most of the Great
pipes are back in place. The new Clarinet is clearly visible (with
shiny cylindrical resonators). There was not quite enough room for them
to fit left to right so some are mounted on a separate electric
windchest in the middle.
July 2006
The rebuilt
organ is back in use and a joy to play. The last rank to be
replaced and tuned was the Great Trumpet.(the
conical pipes, front two rows on the left). On July 9th we were visited
by La
Maîtrise des Petits chanteurs de Québec,
a choir of 50 Canadian children, who participated in out morning
service. Their organist Marc d'Anjou
(organist of Québec
R/C Cathedral), played as well as myself.
