Aabel, G. T.     Denmark   b. 6th Feb 1903, Copenhagen; d. 1961

Gunnar Theilmann Aabel studied at the Royal Institute for the Blind in Copenhagen. Organist of the Rigshospitalets Kirke from 1929 until his death, his organ music is unpublished.

Abarca, F.     France   fl. 1825-1840

François Abarca was cathedral organist in Nancy between the above dates and published a Verset in F in Le journal des organistes 1879 [LJO].

Abrahamson, J. S.     Sweden   b. 1959

Johan Abrahamson is a church musician in Tidaholm. His Méditation (Verrières Transparantes) and Two Chorale Preludes (“Var jag går i skogar, berg och dalar”, “O, hur saligt att få vandra”) are unpublished.


Adams, E. K.     USA   b. 8th Jan 1911, Oconto Falls, WI; d. 6th June 1994, Waukesha, WI

Dedication and They have taken away my Lord by Elizabeth Kilmer Adams, an organist in several Wisconsin churches, are unpublished.

Adamson, J.     Scotland   b. 1886, Glasgow

John Adamson studied at the Athenæum in Glasgow and served as organist to churches in Glasgow, Blantyre, Hamilton and then from 1913 at Kilbarchan Parish Church.  He may have emigrated to Canada. He published Adagio patetico, Andante, Andante con moto, Postlude in C, Prelude and Triumphal March (all 2-stave pieces) in Church Voluntaries Vol. 2 1926 [BFG].

Geert Agteresch has published Psalm 72 in Zes Psalmbewerkingen [LDB].

Ainscough, J. M.     England   b. 25th Apr 1957, London

Juliana (k/a Julie) Mary Ainscough, studied at TCL and with D. Sanger. An organist in Dorking, West Wimbledon and now of St. Mary’s in Ewell, Surrey, her Passacaglia 1982 is unpublished.

Alblas, K.     The Netherlands   Contemporary

Kees Alblas, an organist in Rotterdam, has published Psalm 40 in Zes Psalmbewerkingen [LDB].

Altier, S.     France    b. 1969, Avignon

Stéphane Altier studied in Paris with J. Charpentier and at the RAM in London with Simon Bainbridge. His Séléné 2001 is recorded but unpublished.

Amblard, P.     France   b. 1891; d. 24th July 1971, Bellevue

Pauline Amblard, pupil of E. Gigout, C. Delvincourt and L. Panel, was organist in Dieppe of Saint-Jacques from 1931 and then of Saint-Rémi from c. 1940 until her death. She published 50 Versets sur des thèmes liturguqies 1938 [BIT].

Andermatt, P.     Switzerland   b. 1765; d. 1835

Placidus Andermatt (An der Matt) left a Concertino for organ, 2 horns and strings and (7) Versets. He may have been a monk at the monastery in Einsiedeln as this work is found in the music library there.

Anderson, P.B.     USA   b. 27th Jan 1945, Richmond, VA

Pauline (k/a Tina) Barbour Anderson studied at the Catholic University of America and Rice University. Director of the MacLean Youth Orchestra and a teacher of strings, her Organ Fugue for Easter 1973 is unpublished.

Andrus, H. J.     USA   fl. 1890-1911

Helen Josephine Andrus, an organist in Poughkeepsie, New York, published a Postlude in BI and Prelude in the journal Cecilia Oct and Dec 1896 [WEM]. She was the author of a book, A century of music in Poughkeepsie 1802-1911, from F. B. Howard of Poughkeepsie.

Ardesch, C.     The Netherlands   b. 1959

Cor Ardesch studied at the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam with P. Kee. Organist of the Grote- of Onze Lieve Vrouwekerk in Dordrecht, he has  published Psalm 46 in 15 Chorale Preludes 1999. A Chorale with Variations on “Nun danket alle Gott” c.  2001 is unpublished.

Arend, A. den    The Netherlands   b. 3rd Feb 1903, Pernis; d. 22nd Feb 1982, Rotterdam

Arie Arend, pupil of  J. G. van Herwaarden and organist of the reformed church in Pernis from 1930, published Psalm 138 in the journal Der Orgelvriend 1983 re-issued [WSN]. He was a conductor of youth wind bands and composed extensively for this medium.

Arkeraats, J-W.     The Netherlands   b. 1973

Jan-Willem Arkeraats, pupil of P. Kieviet, has self-published 10 Vols. of short easy Psalm-based pieces as [CBL].

Athanasiadis, B.     Greece   b. 1970

Basil Athanasiadis studied at the conservatory in Athens and in London at TCL and the RAM. He has published Knots II (violin and organ) [UMP].

Athané, B.     France   fl. 1870’s

Bernard Athané, organist of Ariège in the Pyrénées c. 1879, published La plainte et l’écho: mélodie for organ, harmonium or piano with Rouget of Toulouse in 1875, reprinted in Le journal des organistes 1879 [LJO].

Aubut-Pratte, F.     Canada   b. 5th Sep 1922; d. 8th Oct 1984

François Aubut-Pratte (née Aubut) studied at the New England Conservatory in Boston and at the Paris Conservatoire and she taught in Québec and Montréal. Organist of Saint-Édouard, l’église Notre-Dame-des-Neiges and of l’église Saint-Albert-le-Grand, her Organ Mass is unpublished.

Aumeran, P.     France   b. 19th Feb 1971, Toulon, Var

Pierre Aumeran studied with C. de Zeeuw at the conservatory in Aix-en-Provence. An organist in Cuers, Var, his Paraphrase sur “Victimae paschali”, Suite Mégevanne 1997 and Triptyque-évocation de Notre-Dames-des-Anges 2001 are unpublished.

Aune, D. P.     USA   b. 1977, Underwood, MN

Daniel Aune studied at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota with Peter Nygaard and then at the Eastman School in Rochester, New York.. Organist at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Webster, New York, his Chorale “O Sacred Head” 2004 may be unpublished.
